Timing and Precautions

You can’t go wrong with a late afternoon in Bellas Artes, as restaurants and street-side cafés fill up with people off work early. In Plaza Mulato Gil de Castro, allot at least 30 minutes for the Museo de Artes Visuales and adjoining Museo Arqueológico. Because both of these areas are busy and attract people who’ve come to spend money, simple precautions like keeping your purse in your lap, not on the back of your chair, are recommended. Consider coming down into Lastarria after a walk up Cerro Santa Lucía, the smaller of the two hills that overlooks the city.
