TRAVEL TIPS

Getting Here and Around

The Kropotkinsky District is served by the Kropotkinskaya, Borovitskaya, Biblioteka Imeni Lenina, and Park Kultury metro stations. The central landmark in the area is Cathedral of Christ Our Savior, its imposing white corpus rising up along the Moscow River next to the southwestern end of the Boulevard Ring. The Kropotkinsky District is about a 20-minute walk from the Kremlin; the easiest way to reach it from there is either along the river embankment or on ulitsa Volkhonka, which runs directly from Aleksandrovsky Sad to the Kropotkinskaya metro station.

Timing

Taken at a leisurely pace, you could cover the neighborhood in three to four hours, but the area warrants at least half a day; with stops at any of the various museums here, your exploration could easily expand to two days (the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts alone is worth a day). If you're definitely interested in visiting some of the museums in this district, do not head out on a Monday, as most of the museums are closed that day.
