POINTS OF INTEREST
Weatherbeaten but beautifully baroque with a pleasingly pink second-floor facade, the 18th century Zichy Mansion is deep in a courtyard at the exalted if neglected-looking address of Fő tér 1. As you walk in the courtyard, you'll see another building to your right: this houses the Óbudai Helytörténeti Gyüjtemény (Óbuda Local History Collection). Permanent exhibitions here include traditional rooms from typical homes in the district of Békásmegyer and a popular exhibit covering the history of toys from 1860 to 1960.
The Zichy Mansion itself is home to the Kassák Múzeum, which honors the literary and artistic works of a pioneer of the Hungarian avant-garde, Lajos Kassák. The museum also has a new permanent collection of 10th-century Hungarian art from the estates of the nation's authors. The courtyard hosts a popular series of summer concerts and evening jazz performances.
