Palacio
Madrid’s oldest neighborhood, Palacio is the home of the imposing Palacio Real. This is where the military post set by Mohamed I—the first foundation in Madrid—stood in the 9th century. The quarter, which borders the Plaza Mayor on the east, is full of winding streets with plenty of good restaurants and cafés and many of the city’s most traditional shops.
